Well-known Dublin nightclub the Wright Venue is to close its doors later this month.
The massive venue in Swords, North Co Dublin, has played host a large number of high profile celebrities in its 10 years in existence, including The Game and Rihanna.
Staff have been informed of the impending closure.
It’s one of a number of high-profile venues to announce plans to close in recent times, after Lillies Bordello in Dublin and Club 92 in Leopardstown.
The lease on the premises will be taken over by Bodytonic, which runs festivals, restaurants and pubs, including the trendy ‘Bernard Shaw’ on Dublin’s Camden St.
It is set to open a new venue there called the Jam Park.
The company behind the Wright venue is the Michael JF Wright Hospitality Group. Also in its portfolio is Wrights Café Bar in Swords and the Marqette Food Hall in Dublin Airport. The company aid it would to offer redeployment within the Group to Wright Venue staff.
Chief executive Michael Wright said the business is currently focusing on food projects, including a €5m investment in a food hall at St Andrew’s church on Dublin’s Suffolk St, located beside the Molly Malone statue.
“The Wright Venue has been an incredible journey. Since taking a chance and building a venue in North Dublin in the worst of the recession, we’ve spent a decade welcoming customers in their thousands from all over the country. We thrived thanks to the talented and passionate team that helped create the unique Wright Venue atmosphere and reputation and by offering quality entertainment and major stars,” he said.
The most recently filed accounts for the Wright Group entity behind the venue, Wrights Café Bar Airside Ltd, warned of increased competition in the industry.
The accounts, covering the year to the end of March 31 2017, show the company had accumulated losses of €2.5m as of that date. Those figures include a contribution from a second entity within Wrights Café Bar Airside, a pub called Hogs and Heifers.
The Wright Group owns the building in which the venue is located and will receive rental income from Bodytonic.
