Dublin to 'turn red' as 10,000 expected for new Virgin Night Run

Around 10,000 people are expected to run Dublin's streets later this month as part of the very popular Virgin Night Run.

The 10k road race, taking place on Sunday 23 April, is one of only a few times during the year that the streets are shut down for runners, joggers and walkers.

This year, the race will kick of on New Wapping Street, close to North Wall Quay, before snaking making its way into O’Connell Street, City Quays, Grand Canal Dock and Ringsend, before crossing the East Link and finishing at the Samuel Beckett Bridge.

All runners, which includes sport stars Alan Quinlan and Anna Geary, will receive a red running top, a race number, as well as some other goodies to be revealed on the night.

The race will bring a party-like atmosphere to the city, according to Vice President of Commercial at Virgin Media Paul Farrell.

“We’re really excited to announce that the city will be turning red again this year for the Virgin Media Night Run. The city will come alive with a festival atmosphere and we want everyone to come into town and enjoy this fantastic event," he said.

"The run is ideal for regular runners, athletic clubs and anyone who wants to set a goal to complete a 10k run in 2017 and would like to experience the thrill of running through the streets of Dublin City at night."
